This is a wonderfully private wooded camp lot tucked in just a short distance off Gowland Mountain Road and about 5 minutes from the quaint community of Elgin.
Topography of the land is gently sloping from North to South. The land sits near the highest elevation of Gowland Mountain, at approximately 320 meters (1050 feet). The northerly boundary measures 102.1meters (335.0 feet), easterly boundary measures 198.12meters (650.0 feet), southerly boundary measures 102.1meters (335.0 feet) and westerly boundary measures 192.12meters (630.3 feet).
The land is beautifully treed throughout in mature evergreen trees, and you will also find a few deciduous trees - Birch and Maples. The ground is dry and well drained.
Access to the land is good. Maintained paved highways from the Provinces three main cities of Moncton, Fredericton and St. Johns take you to the community of Elgin. From there you take the paved and gravel surfaced Gowland Mountain Road 5 kilometers (3 miles) East to an unmarked private road on your left. The private road leads approximately 700 meters north and then turning east another 400 meters to your land. The private road is gated and provides access to six or seven other camps in the area.
The area is named after George Gowland, who settled here in 1828: PO 1865-1942: in 1866 it was a farming settlement with about 28 resident families, including the family of William Gowland: in 1871 Gowland Mountain had a population of 100: in 1898 Gowland Mountain had 1 post office, 1 sawmill, 1 church and a population of 185. The area was also known as Golden's Mountain.
For those looking to explore, you’ll find many trails in the area for hiking, biking and ATVing and snowmobiling leading to rivers, brooks, mountain tops and hill-tops, panoramic views and freshwater lakes and streams. The adventurer and outdoor enthusiast will find something interesting around every bend and over every ridge. From here the incredible network of both marked and unmarked trails can take you to the Bay of Fundy, Caledonia Mountain, Hillsborough and the Peticodiac River and even up to Moncton.
The Pollett River, 5 kilometers distant at Elgin runs north from Elgin up to Petitcodiac. Pollett River offers challenging canoeing and kayaking voyages during high water levels and is a relaxing place to cool off on those warm summer days.
The major activities in this area is forestry mixed with light agriculture, including dairy and beef production, as well as maple sugar and wild blueberry production.
The nearby community of Elgin (5 kilometers distant) with a population of approximately 1,000 has a post office, fire hall, church, community center and playground. The larger town of Petitcodiac (pop. 1,444) is 22.5 kilometers distant. The vibrant city of Moncton (pop. 120,000), the province’s second largest city and urban centre, is 65 kilometers distant, and easily reached via well maintained paved country roads and highways.
